Purchased, in partnership with Farallon Capital Management L.L.C., Las Ventanas al Paraiso, an ultra-luxury beachfront resort and spa located in Los Cabos, Mexico. In conjunction with the purchase, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, the premier manager of ultra-luxury resorts throughout the world, agreed to a long-term contract to continue management of the resort. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts launched Las Ventanas in July 1997 and quickly established a new standard in the luxury resort market.
Las Ventanas, which was recently awarded Best Latin American Resort by Conde Nast Traveler for the fourth time, is heralded for its world-class spa, unparalleled service, exquisite accommodations and superb dining. Dramatically located at the tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula, nestled on fine white sands along the sparkling-blue Sea of Cortez, Las Ventanas has set new standards for luxury and service in Latin America. The resort has redefined luxury and pampering, reaching out with special touches that are the hallmark of refined hospitality.
The resort features 61 exceptionally spacious suites with exquisite furnishings, breathtaking infinity-plunge pools, unique appointments hand-crafted by Mexican artisans, individual telescopes for stargazing, and magnificent panoramic views; a world-class spa known for its signature treatments derived from the Baja desert featuring Rosewood's extensive menu of therapies from around the world; signature Baja-Mediterranean cuisine, served at the resort's two world-class restaurants overlooking the sea; a Tequila & Ceviche Bar featuring Mexico's finest tequilas and ceviche; and world-class golf at the exclusive and private Querencia Golf Course.
The purchase also included land entitled for up to 30 additional villa residences as well as an unfinished Phase IV building containing 8 premier villas that JTL Capital will finish constructing in September of 2004. The transaction was a first for JTL in Mexico. Morgan Stanley Mortgage Capital provided the financing.
